Use Stucco for a Unique Pattern and Color Finish to Your House

Stucco is a finishing product for walls, ceilings, and even decorations. It can be used inside a house to give it a certain finish, but most stucco in NJ is applied as a siding on the outside of a house.
Advantages to Stucco Siding
Stucco is used to create a certain look on the outside of your home. It covers brick and concrete and can be applied directly to the brick or the concrete. Stucco is very durable and comes in several different colors. While you can certainly apply paint or whitewash to concrete to cover it, it is not as durable as stucco. Paint or whitewash will adhere to concrete for about two to three years and then need to be redone.
Stucco allows you to select the color you want to be applied to your home. There are 19 basic colors of stucco. However, you can take those colors and combine them in ways that can give your home any tint you wish.
Stucco Patterns
Stucco also has different patterns that give it a unique look.
• Tudor Look: One popular look with stucco is the Tudor look. This puts a wooden style framing throughout the exterior of the house. Then stucco is applied in the middle of the wooden frame with a medium finish.
• Popcorn Finish: The most common stucco finish is called popcorn finish. This is often the most economical finish to do because it takes less time than the others.
• Knock Down Dash: This style of stucco is like the popcorn finish with the exception that it has been flattened. The knock down dash appears smoother and is easier to clean.
• Trowel Design: This design is also known as the skip trowel design. It is unique and will stand out. The trowel design is great at hiding any bumps, crooked framing or other such imperfections in the construction of your house.
• Float Finish: This design is great for detailed finishes such as archways, window frames, pillars, and finish accents. It is flat so that it can accentuate the intricate design it is covering.
Layers in Stucco Finish
Typically there are three layers or coats when stucco in NJ is applied. The first layer is called the scratch layer. It is made of plastic and sand. The second layer is the leveling coat and is called the brown coat. It is composed of cement, lime, and sand. It can have a tint as well. The final coat is the finish. It uses the same tint at the leveling coat. This is the coat that receives the decorative pattern.
