If you are staring up a new business you may be feeling overwhelmed with all the things you have to get done before you open your doors. On the top of your list may not be finding good legal advice, but having adequate counsel for your new business is essential for you to operate effectively. It may seen tedious to have to get legal counsel for your business, but if you don't have certain contracts and papers filed correctly you may have to deal with a lot of headache later. Here are a few ways to get yourself on the right track.
No matter how large or small your city, be it Salt Lake or Cedar City, finding a lawyer still takes a little time. Interview a few, ask around, and see who comes recommended. Not all lawyers specialize in the same areas. You will want to find one who is familiar with small business law and who is committed to helping you get started with your new venture. Talk to friends and see who has had a good experience with a local lawyer. If you are planning on doing business online, your legal questions will probably be different than if you are opening a physical store.
If you are unsure about how much money a lawyer will charge to write up your business contracts and what-not, don't be afraid to get a few quotes. You should call up a few different lawyers and ask them how much they charge by the hour and for specific services. If you have a tight budget, consider using the help on online legal services and documents. After you find a lawyer you like, you will be able to go to him or her for questions and counsel when your business is up and running. Keeping things straight legally may seem tedious at first but you will be glad to have all your documents in order when you get going and don't have time to stop and worry about contracts and learning employment laws.
